About Driver Development Programme
Carolyn Barker set up and has run The Driver Development Programme for seven years.
Having worked as an instructor at the Prodrive test site for many years, Carolyn saw what a perfect combination of facilities could be offered to the increasing number of owner drivers wanting to learn more about the handling limits and dynamics of the car they drive, at the same time building on their own driver skill level.
What ever your current level: road, track day, or race, there is another level to find. We have the programme and skilled coaches to fulfil your personal needs.
A bit about Carolyn: Her background is quite diverse from the motoring point of view. Becoming familiar with track days in the early 80's, at the same time running a driving school through to the 90's, as well as racing at club level in various cars including BMW E30 M3, ff2000, BARC Formula Renault. Carolyn also has extensive knowledge of the Nurburgring Nordschleife and has instructed and raced there.
A hugely important element of the course is the care with which Carolyn matches the coach for the day to suit the customers' needs.
The DDP team of coaches are selected for their high skill level and genuine desire to pass on their knowledge in a clear and friendly way. They have backgrounds in professional race driving, rallying or manufacturer testing.
Two drivers share a coach. This is a proven formula, giving plenty of personal tuition, at frequent intervals, driver to instructor, with time to consolidate between driving sessions. It is also interesting to learn by watching another.
Your coach will take each guest through their own personal development plan, therefore you will always be at a level that enables you to develop your skills comfortably.
Each course date may have a different line up of coaches, depending on whether they are competing or not, so it is difficult to give a profile on each one, but rest assured, the standard is always very high, anything you want to know regarding any aspect of car dynamics or driving technique, can be answered on the day!
When not away racing, Carolyn's son, Ben Barker, works with her, as a regular coach. Please see his website www.benbarkermotorsport.com
He is racing this year, 2014, in the high profile European series Mobil1 Porsche Supercup, ELMS series and the American Tudor United Sportscar series.
